How retirement planning works with Simon
Six clear steps, at your pace. You'll know what each step involves and what it costs before anything goes ahead, and you always take your plan home to sleep on it.
A plan built around your life, not just your balance
Retirement is a big change, and it's normal to have questions. Will my money last? How do the Age Pension and tax fit in? What will I do with my week?
Wherever you're starting from, a clear plan helps. Simon has spent over 15 years helping people plan for retirement and live well in it. Our process is thorough, explained in plain English and works at your pace.
“From there Simon laid out the path forward, step by step, in a way that I could understand.”

Our engagement process, step by step
Step 1. A 30-minute Fit Check
Your first meeting is by phone or video call, working through a simple retirement checklist. It's general information, not personal advice, and helps us both see if we're a good match. Simon focuses on retirement planning: your income, super, the Age Pension and the life you want after work. If you need something else, such as share trading on its own or basic insurance only, we'll point you towards other options.
Step 2. Your Path to Prosperity session
A longer one-on-one meeting where we take stock of where you are now and talk through what you'd like retirement to look like, using the five pillars of our Path to Prosperity:
- Plenty – a regular pay packet
- Play – joyful movement
- People – your village
- Passion – doing what you love
- Place – the right base
If there's a gap between where you're heading and where you'd like to be, this is where we find it. Your answers and documents give Simon what he needs to prepare advice that fits your real life.
Step 3. Simon builds your strategy
Simon researches your options and works through four questions:
- Income: How can my savings and the Age Pension give me a regular income?
- Tax: How can tax be managed now and later?
- Investments: How is my money set up for market ups and downs?
- Life: How do my priorities fit within my budget?
Step 4. Your plan, in plain English
Simon walks you through his recommendations in your Statement of Advice, your written plan. You'll see the numbers clearly and how each strategy would work for you. We don't ask for a decision or a signature at this meeting.
“Simon communicates professionally and effectively by explaining things in a way I understand and allows me time to process information and make informed choices”
Nicole, Jan 2026Selected reviews. Individual experiences vary.
Step 5. Sleep on it
Take your plan home and take your time. We're here to build a long-term relationship, not make a quick sale. Before you go ahead, ask yourself:
- Do I trust Simon and Sunlit Path?
- Do I understand the strategy?
- Is the value worth the cost?
- Do I feel confident about the plan?
If you decide we're not the right fit, that's completely fine. You stay in control.
Step 6. Putting your plan in place
Once you're ready to go ahead, we handle the paperwork, consolidations, transfers and setting up your agreed strategy. Then regular reviews keep your plan up to date as your life, markets and the rules change, with Simon as your adviser.
“Simon reviewed our super and insurance which we had neglected for many years.”
Kellie, Sep 2026Selected reviews. Individual experiences vary.
You'll know the cost first
No sales pressure. We quote a fixed dollar fee for your advice before any work starts, based on its complexity and scope. Ongoing fees and any other payments, such as life insurance commissions, are set out in our FSG.
