Your plan in writing (one-off)

Your Statement of Advice is your written plan. It looks at where you are now, what you'd like retirement to look like, and Simon's recommendations for your super, retirement income, the Age Pension and tax.

You pay a one-off fee for the research, strategy and time it takes to build it. At Sunlit Path, the Statement of Advice fee starts from $3,300, depending on complexity. We'll always confirm the fee before any work starts, and you take the advice home to sleep on before you decide anything.

Putting your plan in place

Advice only helps once it's in place. Your Statement of Advice fee covers putting your plan into action, including opening accounts, consolidating super and setting up regular income payments, so there's no separate implementation fee.

Ongoing advice, with the same person every time

Retirement isn't set and forget. Rules, markets and your own plans change, so ongoing advice keeps your plan up to date. Reviews usually cover:

  • reviewing your strategy
  • adjusting for tax or government rule changes
  • your cashflow and emergency fund
  • keeping up to date with the Age Pension and other Centrelink rules
  • answering your questions as they come up.

Ongoing advice fees start from $3,300 a year and can include an amount based on the funds we advise on. Your fee is confirmed in writing before any work starts, and the FSG sets out how it's worked out. You deal with Simon directly at every review.

“When we have concerns, Simon answers them in a timely and professional manner.”

Product fees and insurance commissions

Product fees

Your super fund or investment platform charges its own fees for things like administration, transactions and reporting. These are paid to the product provider, not to Simon. Simon takes these costs into account when he recommends a product. The Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for each product sets out its fees.

Life insurance commissions

If your plan includes life or personal insurance (life, TPD, income protection or trauma cover), the insurer may pay us a commission. These payments are set out in our FSG. As people get closer to retirement, their insurance needs often change, so Simon reviews whether your cover still fits.

Every cost explained before you commit

You stay in control. Before any work starts, you'll know what your advice will cost and what's included. Ask as many questions as you like.

“We highly recommend Simon and are very grateful for the excellent customer service.”

Common questions about fees

How much does a retirement financial planner cost?

It depends on how complex your situation is and how much ongoing help you want. At Sunlit Path, a Statement of Advice starts from $3,300, there's no separate implementation fee, and ongoing advice fees start from $3,300 a year and can include an amount based on the funds we advise on. We quote your Statement of Advice fee as a fixed dollar amount before any work starts.

What happens in the 30-minute Fit Check?

It's a relaxed conversation by phone or video call, working through a simple retirement checklist. It's general information, not personal advice. If we're a good match, Simon explains the next steps and the cost before anything goes ahead.

Can advice fees be paid from my super?

Sometimes. If your fund allows it, fees for advice about your super account can be paid from that account. Paying from super reduces your super balance, and it needs your written consent. Simon will explain whether that's an option for you when he quotes your fee.

Are advice fees tax deductible?

It depends on what the advice covers and your circumstances. Generally, advice fees are only deductible in limited cases, such as ongoing advice about income-producing investments, or the part of a fee that relates to managing your tax affairs when the advice comes from a registered tax agent or a qualified tax relevant provider. Simon is a qualified tax relevant provider, so his advice can include tax (financial) advice. You must pay the fee yourself: fees paid from your super balance can't be claimed. This is general information only. Your registered tax agent can confirm how it applies to you. We provide itemised invoices to make that easier.
